A chrome and braided leather lapel pin watch in the form of an anchor. The watch is set just above the arm on the shank of the anchor, just below the stock. The ring at the top is connected to a lapel pin by the oringal piece of tan braided leather cord. The pin is fronted by a well designed, beveled pin which can be woven through a jacket lapel etc. This stunning little decorative piece was Swiss made and imported into the U.S probably around the late 1930's early 1940's perhaps for the wife or partner of a serving member of the U.S Navy.
It was quite common during the war, for the partners left at home to show their support for their loved ones by wearing themed jewellery supporting the section of the armed forces their loved ones were serving in. This type of jewellery was know as "sweetheart jewellery".
The watch is powered by a mechanically wound, seventeen jeweled tiny gem of a movement signed 'Monarch Watch Co.', and with "MXE" import stamp into the U.S. It is a tiny and well finish little beauty! The back of the case is also stamped with Monarch Watch Co. with the model reference number 356, and "metal chromé" for the metal used.
The dial is all original with applied Arabic numerals against an eggshell coloured base with small printed minute track. There is no maker branding as the space is so small! The dial also features the "Swiss" makers country mark in the customary position at the foot of the dial. Monarch was a small Swiss watch company that produced a large number of affordable and well made and designed watches for export. This is a very rare and adorable little piece perfect for the sailing fanatic presented in working order and in perfect original condition. Swiss made, circa 1940.
